Japan to set up auto industry at EPZ

Japan, one of the major development partners of Bangladesh, will set up an automobile industry with an investment of $20 million in export processing zone.

This was revealed when a three-member Japanese delegation met executive chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority Brigadier General Jamil Ahmed Khan at the latter’s office in Dhaka.

Managing director of Shinano Kenshi Lid, Masataka Fukuye, manager Naoriyaki Kobayashi and a representative of JETRO were in the delegation, said a BEPZA release.

BEPZA member (investment) M Moyjuddin Ahmed and general manager (investment and development) Azizur Rahman were present.

The industry would create employment opportunities for 2,000 Bangladeshis, the release said.

During the meeting, they discussed matters of joint venture investment in various sectors of Bangladesh.

The delegation members lauded the BEPZA’s role in turning Bangladesh into an industrialised county by attracting local and foreign investors, the release added.
