Foundry units export Tk 5cr pumps to India
BSS, BOGRA

March 6: Locally manufactured centrifugal pumps worth Taka 5 crore were exported to India last year.

The shallow engine-run pumps used for irrigation produced at foundry industries in Bogra have created huge demand in India.
According to Foundry Owners Association of Bangladesh (FOAB), Bangladesh has prospects of doubling exports of centrifugal pumps to India.

Other products manufactured at foundry industries have export potentials in the European Union countries, as there is huge demand for manhole covers and electric motor covers and other iron products.

Local mill owners said these produces could easily enter the European markets if they were provided with credit assistance for modernizing their factories and supports for raising skills of labours through arranging training.

FOAB sources said exports of these pumps started on September 24, 2008, when Miltan Foundry Mills first exported about 1,000 pieces of pumps to India. So far, a total of 50,000 pieces of pumps were exported to India.

Shova Enterprise, a local export-import company, so far exported 13,000 pieces of pumps to West Bengal. These pumps were manufactured at Milttan Pumps and Azad Pumps foundry companies.

The prices of pumps vary from Taka 7,000 to Taka 15,000 as per their sizes.

Owner of Miltan Pump Industry said that two importing enterprises in Kolkata – Puja Export and Icon Impact- have demands for 40,000 pieces of pumps worth Taka 4.20 crore every year, but it is not possible for the manufacturing company to fulfil their demands for various limitations.

Chief Executive Officer of Shova Enterprise Syed Ahmed Kiron informed that there is demand for one lakh pieces of pumps in Kolkata.
